The Hacienda Hotel and Casino replaced the old Gold Strike Hotel and Casino which was destroyed by fire. Since there were two properities using the Gold Strike name, the owners decided to purchase rights to use the Hacienda name on the new properity, the original Hacienda (resort) having been imploded and replaced by the Mandalay_Bay_Resort_and_Casino.

The hotel is located outside of Boulder City, Nevada, which does not allow gaming and is in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
